Because novel monoclonal antibodies have different amino acid sequence in the variable region, it is impossible to provide a pre-made antibody array for their detection.  However, sequence alignment of many of the marketed mAb products demonstrated that different monoclonal antibodies share several relatively conserved sequence regions even in the mAb variable region.  Based on this analysis, multiple polyclonal antibodies covering each of  the different conserved sequence regions are combined to provide a general coverage for novel monoclonal antibody drug candidates.
